The countdown for the World Floorball Championships (WFC) is on. Today 14 days remain until the first face-off in Malmö. Sixteen nations are pitted against each other in the highlight of the year. Get to know the teams that are participating and competing for gold.

Qualifications

Thailand played in Group G of the WFC qualification in the AOFC (Asia-Oceania Floorball Confederation) group. In the group stage, they played against New Zealand, Korea, and The Philippines. In the first group stage match, they faced Korea and won comfortably with a score of 18-1. The next match was a closer fight against New Zealand, but Thailand won again, this time 6-3. In the final group stage match, they played against the Philippines and secured a strong victory with a score of 8-3. Furthermore, Thailand played a playoff match (semi-final) against Singapore. Once again, the team demonstrated their strength, winning with a commanding score of 10-1. As a result, Thailand qualified by winning their semi-final.  In the final match, they faced the Philippines again. This time, it was a much closer game, which Thailand ultimately lost 6-5. But with a strong performance in the group stage and in the semi-final, it was clear that Thailand had secured their spot for the WFC in Malmö.

Floorball has not only supported Thailand players’ athletic careers but also helped some of them reconnect with family and explore their heritage, bringing them closer to their roots. Both players Pi Chaiyakul and Pawat Thaidit in Thailand’s national team were adopted from Thailand and raised in Sweden. When they started the journey of finding their roots in Thailand, floorball worked as a facilitator.

Simon Johansson has a great ability to read the game, positioning himself perfectly to create scoring opportunities. Made a strong impression during his first appearance at the World Floorball Championship (WFC) in 2022. The resilient forward will surely showcase finesse, impressive moves, and several goals in Malmö. Simon Johansson is only 20 years old so he for sure has a bright floorball career ahead of him. Even in this year’s WFC qualifications, he showed great form, stepping up in crucial matches. He is frequently seen on the score sheet and managed to record 6 points in three group-stage games. His creativity and technical skills could become a key factor for Thailand, who made their World Championship debut in 2016.
